million people have
high blood pressure and, annually, 3.5
million
new cases
accumulate.
With
affluence,
the
blood cholesterol
level
also climbs up steadily; the age
for
coronaries becomes younger. There
are also very able or talented
key
people dying suddenly of heart disease
during
their
hard work.
This
is
very
unlortunate but it seems that
these
unusually talented
and
hard-working
people have, paradoxically, little knowl-
edge or determination for
healthcare.
Recent research
has
also found
that,
most people with acute hearl infarcts
that
immediately threatened
their
lives
even before reaching
the
hospital,
had
relatively "healthy"
coronaries on
prior
examination. ln other words, prior
(and
regular) examinations
found
"satisfac-
tory"
coronaries. However,
these
people tend to
be
over-confidant about
their clean bill of
health
and
neglect
most healthcare advice
-
they adopt
an
irregular life
habit or
work
far
too
hard
or
neglect
to
continue
faithf
ully their
medications
for
diabetes and/or
high
blood
pressure. When
the
blood
pressure is uncontrolled or when there
is poorly managed emotion/stress, the
unstable
partially
atherosclerotic
(hardened) arteries may
start
to rupture
or
bleed
and
a
clot
so formed would
obstruct the coronaries supplying blood
to the
heart.
That is why their life
is
threatened even before reaching
the
hospital.
