MAN'S
VERY
FIRST
LESSON:
''FETAL EDUCATION''
During pregnancy,
with the
devel-
opment
of
the
inner ear and
the
brain,
sounds
are
heard by
the
fetus as from
6
months onwards. These are mother's
heart beats, arterial pulsation and blood
flow to the placenta as well as mother's
occasional intestinal
sounds.
Even
the
speech and singing
of
the
mother are
also
heard and he reacts by increased
fetal
heart
rates.
After birth, the baby
would still prefer the familiar sounds,
e.
9., babies feel more secure
in
the arms
of
the mother most probably because
they can
hear
similar sounds as before.
ln
fact,
research
workers
made
a
spe-
cial tape on such sounds and
study
whether these are beneficial to babies'
development.
The
memory of the fetus
is also remarkable
- a
replay of
the
songs
heard as a
fetus would elicit
an
exceptional reaction
in
the
baby.
Thus,
"fetal
education" does not
really
teach
anything
but
convey
pleasant
stimula-
tion to promote
better
development of
the brain. Hence, the mother should
try
her best to control rough emotions; ex-
pose
herself to
a
reasonably
pleasant
environment; avoid horror, scary or
melancholy books or filrns. The mental
state
of
the mother would
not
only af-
fect
her own hormone'sbereffons,but
also the developrnent;b? the
fetust'
