Even
the tiny cells
have,
on the
cell
membranes, receptors
that
recog-
nize and also
combine
with
messengers
to
transmit messages into the cell.
These
"eyes"
are very specific, espe-
cially
regards
telling promptly "enemies"
from "friends", e.g.
in
the presence of
bacteria,
viruses or
even cancer cells,
a
message
is
transmitted
at
once
to
the
brain so that numerous "soldiers" are
mobilized. lf
we
lack receptors for LDL
(low-density lipo-proteins) to absorb the
LDL in our blood, these harmful sub-
stances would accumulate and
our
body suffers.
The
blood vessel walls
becomes atherosclerotic, or hardened.
The main
problem of organ
transplant
is the
incompatibility
between the
antigen of the donor and
the
receptors
of
the recipient - rejection occurs and
the
transplant
fails
completely. Hence,
the solution is
to
seek a good match
and
to
supplement
with
medications
to
minimize any subsequent reaction
between the tissues of the donor
and
the
recipient.
Thus, a
new life is given
to those with a nonfunctioning organ.
