THE
RIGHTS
AND
WRONGS
OF
TAKING ANTIBIOTICS
Antibiotics are two edged
swords
-
on
the one hand, they
are important for killing bacteria;
on the other, they
may
be
a
"poison". For
urinary tract
infections,
drinking
more
water
would also
help
to control,
not
just antibiotics. Most antibiotics
would
have adverse effects.
ln
case there is any suspicion of
such happening, report to
your
doctor at
once.
As
one
course
of
antibiotics would
normally
last 7 days, never stop taking
prematurely, no matter
how
much
better you
feel.
Self medi-
cation of multiple antibiotics
is
also
harmful. Store all medica-
tions
in
a cool and safe
place.
Preferably, swallow antibiotics
with
plain water; the worst
is
using alcoholic drinks, as
part
of
the antibiotics may suppress
the
metabolism
of alcohol
in-
side
the
body and damage to
the
liver may result. "Left over"
antibiotics would hardly
suit
you,
nor would
the
course
be
sufficient,
let alone
the
expired
date.
Eye drops containing an-
tibiotics may
upset
the
normal
balance
of
the flora
of
the
cor-
nea
of
the
eye.
lf
such
antibiot
ics
are often
used
with steroid
preparations,
fungal
infection
may
then
set in,
with disastrous
results.
